Social package

2008/2613(RSP)

Following the debate which took place during the sitting on the same day, the European Parliament rejected all individual resolutions from all the political groups relating to the social package, which was adopted by the Commission on 2 July 2008 and included the Communication entitled "A Renewed social agenda: Opportunities, access and solidarity in 21st century Europe,"  (COM(2008)412) as well as other non-legislative proposals.

Philip BUSHILL-MATTHEWS (EPP-ED, UK), on behalf of the EPP-ED group, also decided to withdraw the draft resolution tabled on the group's behalf, He stated that the views of all political groups should be taken into account during the next few months, in order that the House might produce a resolution "of which it could be proud", in view of the importance of this matter.
