European Central Bank (ECB): appointment of Vice-President
The European Parliament adopted by 488 votes to 73, with 60 abstentions, a decision on the Council recommendation on the appointment of the Vice-President of the European Central Bank. It delivers a favourable opinion to the European Council on the Council recommendation to appoint Vítor Constâncio as Vice-President of the European Central Bank.
To recall, by letter of 24 February 2010 the Council consulted the European Parliament on the appointment of Vítor Constâncio as Vice-President of the European Central Bank for a term of office of eight years. The Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs evaluated the credentials of the nominee and subsequently held a two-hour hearing with the nominee on 23 March 2010.
