Ovine and caprine animals: system for the identification and registration

PURPOSE: to codify Council Regulation (EC) No 21/2004 establishing a system for the identification and registration of ovine and caprine animals.

LEGAL BASIS: Article 43(2) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU).

CONTENT: the purpose of this proposal is to undertake a codification of Council Regulation (EC) No 21/2004 of 17 December 2003 establishing a system for the identification and registration of ovine and caprine animals and amending Regulation (EC) No 1782/2003 and Directives 92/102/EEC and 64/432/EEC.

The new Regulation will supersede the various acts incorporated in it. This proposal fully preserves the content of the acts being codified and hence does no more than bringing them together with only such formal amendments as are required by the codification exercise itself.

BUDGETARY IMPLICATION: this proposal has no implication for the EU budget.
