European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA): extension of the term of office of the Chairperson

The European Parliament approved by 498 votes to 121, with 30 abstentions, the proposal for the extension of the term of office of Steven Maijoor as Chairperson of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) by another five-year term.
To recall, on 24 September 2015, the Board of Supervisors of the ESMA proposed to extend the term of office of Steven Maijoor, the incumbent Chairperson of the ESMA, by another five-year term, and informed the European Parliament accordingly.
On 17 November 2015, the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs held a hearing with Steven Maijoor at which he made an opening statement and then responded to questions from the members of the Committee.
