EC/Israel Euro-Mediterranean Association Agreement: accession of Croatia to the EU. Protocol
The Committee on Foreign Affairs adopted the report by Cristian Dan PREDA (EPP, RO) on the draft Council decision on the conclusion, on behalf of the European Union and its Member States, of a Protocol to the Euro-Mediterranean Agreement establishing an association between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and the State of Israel, of the other part, to take account of the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union.
The committee recommended that the European Parliament give its consent to the conclusion of the protocol.
The Republic of Croatia became a Member State of the European Union on 1 July 2013. In accordance with the Act of Accession of the Republic of Croatia, its accession to this Agreement must be approved by the conclusion of a Protocol to the Agreement between the Council, acting unanimously on behalf of the Member States, and the State of Israel.
On 14 September 2012, the Council authorised the Commission to open negotiations with the State of Israel. The negotiations were successfully concluded.
