European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA): appointment of the Chairperson
The European Parliament adopted by 555 votes to 56, with 81 abstentions, a decision on the proposal for the appointment of the Chairperson of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).
The term of office of the Chairperson of the European Securities and Markets Authority ended on 31 March 2021. On 29 September 2021, the Council proposed to appoint Verena Ross as Chairperson of the European Securities and Markets Authority for a term of office of five years, in accordance with Regulation (EU) No 1095/2010 establishing a European Supervisory Authority (European Securities and Markets Authority).
On 30 September 2021, the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs held a hearing with Verena Ross, at which she made an opening statement and then responded to questions from the members of the Committee.
