Partial renewal of members of the Court of Auditors - PL nominee
The European Parliament decided by 151 votes to 534, with 9 abstentions, to deliver an unfavourable opinion on the Council's proposal to appoint the Polish candidate Marek Opiola as a member of the Court of Auditors. It asked the Council to withdraw its proposal and to submit a new one to Parliament.
Marek Opiola has been a Member of the European Court of Auditors (Member of Chamber V Financing and Administering the Union) since February 2021.
The Committee on Budgetary Control evaluated the credentials of the candidate proposed by the Council in view of the requirements laid down in Article 286(1) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU). It then held a hearing with the candidate on 10 January 2022, during which the candidate made an opening statement and then answered questions put by members of the committee.
