Partial renewal of Members of the Court of Auditors – IE nominee
The European Parliament decided by 496 votes to 19, with 33 abstentions, to give a favourable opinion on the Council's proposal to nominate Tony Murphy (IE) as a member of the Court of Auditors. The candidate has represented Ireland on the Court since 2018 and became its President in September 2022.
By letter of 8 September 2023, the Council consulted Parliament on the nomination of Tony Murphy as a Member of the Court of Auditors.
Parliaments Committee on Budgetary Control then proceeded to evaluate Tony Murphys credentials. In carrying out that evaluation, the committee received a curriculum vitae from Tony Murphy, as well as the replies to the written questionnaire that he had been sent.
The committee subsequently held a hearing with Tony Murphy on 12 October 2023, at which he made an opening statement and then answered questions put by the members of the committee.
