Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA): appointment of the Chair

The European Parliament decided by 569 votes to 20, with 61 abstentions, to approve the proposal for the appointment of the Chair of the Authority for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism.

Bruna Szego currently heads the anti-money laundering supervision and regulation unit at the Bank of Italy.

On 4 December 2024, the Commission adopted a proposal to appoint Bruna Szego as Chair of the Authority for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism and transmitted that proposal to Parliament. The Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs then proceeded to evaluate the credentials of the proposed candidate.

On 16 December 2024, the Parliamentary Committees held a hearing with Bruna Szego, at which she made an opening statement and then answered questions put by members of the Committees.

Parliament recalled that it is committed to ensuring gender balance in executive positions in Union institutions, bodies and agencies and that all Union and national institutions and bodies should implement concrete measures to ensure gender balance.
