Amending Regulation as regards obligations of economic operators concerning battery due diligence policies

2025/0129(COD)

The European Parliament adopted by 542 votes to 97, with 12 abstentions, a resolution on the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 as regards obligations of economic operators concerning battery due diligence policies.

Parliament adopted its position at first reading, taking over the Commission's proposal.

As part of the Omnibus IV Simplification Package, the Commission's proposal aims to postpone by two years (until 18 August 2027) the date of application of the due diligence obligations of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 in order to allow economic operators placing batteries on the EU market to be better prepared, with the help of guidelines, and resolve difficulties with third-party verification.
