Milk and milk products: distribution of milk in schools

PURPOSE : amending regulation on the supply of school milk COMMUNITY MEASURE : Council Regulation 1670/2000/EC amending Regulation 1255/1999/EC on the common organisation of the market in milk and milk products. CONTENT : The Council unanimously agreed to the Commission proposal extending the scheme for school milk as amended during the meeting by a Presidency compromise, which the Commission endorsed and which: - replaced the 95% rate of Community funding by a rate of 75%, in line with the European Parliament's recommendation; - allows Member States to top up Community support by granting national aid to fund the distribution of milk to schools and to finance that aid through an appropriate contribution from the dairy sector.
