EU/Brazil Agreement: cooperation with and through Europol and the Federal Police of Brazil
The European Parliament adopted by 605 votes to 5, with 19 abstentions, a legislative resolution on the draft Council decision on the conclusion of the Agreement between the European Union and the Federative Republic of Brazil on cooperation with and through the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) and the Federal Police of Brazil.
The European Parliament gave its consent to the conclusion of the agreement.
The Agreement establishes cooperation between Europol and the competent Brazilian authorities to enable the transfer of personal and non-personal data. The Agreement will support and strengthen the action of the authorities of the EU Member States and those of Brazil in preventing and combating criminal offences, including serious crime and terrorism. At the same time, the Agreement provides for appropriate safeguards regarding the human rights and fundamental freedoms of individuals, including the right to privacy and data protection.
