Digital Trade Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Singapore
The European Parliament adopted by 515 votes to 93, with 33 abstentions, a legislative resolution on the draft Council decision on the conclusion of the Agreement on Digital Trade between the European Union and the Republic of Singapore.
Parliament gave its consent to the conclusion of the agreement.
The agreement establishes a modern framework to facilitate digital trade in goods and services between the EU and Singapore, complementing the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) and the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). It contains ambitious, binding rules on areas such as cross-border data flows, online consumer protection, and software source-code protection.
It also requires both Parties to maintain strong, non-discriminatory legal standards for protecting personal data, recognising privacy as essential for trust in the digital economy and the development of trade.
