Appointment of the Chairperson of the European Banking Authority

The European Parliament decided by 536 to 50, with 29 abstentions, to deliver a favourable decision on the proposal to appoint François-Louis Michaud as Chairperson of the European Banking Authority.
The current Chairperson of the European Banking Authority resigned on 31 January 2026. On 4 February 2026, the Council proposed to appoint, upon confirmation by the Parliament, François-Louis Michaud as Chairperson of the European Banking Authority for a term of office of five years.
On 25 February 2026, the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs held a hearing with François-Louis Michaud, at which he made an opening statement and then responded to questions from the members of the Committee.
