Shipments of waste: export of mixed municipal waste for recovery to Switzerland

The European Parliament adopted by 559 votes to 7, with 5 abstentions, a legislative resolution on the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Regulation (EU) 2024/1157 as regards the prohibition to export mixed municipal waste destined for recovery.
Parliament adopted its position at first reading, taking over the Commission's proposal.
The proposal aims to amend the regulation on shipments of waste, which governs shipments of waste between EU Member States, as well as between EU countries and third countries. Specifically, it amends Article 44(2)(f) of Regulation (EU) 2024/1157 to allow the continued export of mixed municipal waste to Switzerland for recovery.
