Frontal impact resistance of motor vehicles (amend. Directive 70/156/EEC)

1994/0323(COD)

The rapporteur, Mr Donnelly, welcomed the proposal from the Council to introduce stricter tests on the frontal impact resistance of motor vehicles. He referred to the benefits of the new legislation by estimating that it would save some 15 000 lives throughout the EU and by stating that when it came into force in 1998 vehicle manufacturers would be providing protection for the driver as well as the passengers. Recalling that almost all of the amendments tabled by Parliament had been included in the common position, Commissioner Bangemann voiced his support for the Donnelly report.
