Foodstuffs, labelling: coffee and chicory extracts (simplify Directive 77/436/EEC)

The common position of the Council incorporated none of the three amendments proposed by the European Parliament concerning the determination of nominal weight for packaging for coffee extracts and chicory and the inclusion in the text of the methods of analysis. The main modification by the Council concerns the extent of the Commission's implementing powers concerning the technical adaptation and the procedure selected for this purpose. The Council has limited these powers to the adjustments necessary to bring the provisions of the directive into line with Community provisions generally applicable to foodstuffs - excluding more substantial adjustments which remain subject to the codecision procedure - within the IIIa committee framework.�
