Violation of women's rights and Union international relations
2002/2286(INI)
Prior to the vote on the own-initiative report by Mrs. Miet SMET (EPP-ED, B) on the violations of women's rights and EU international relations, Mrs. Maria Elena VALENCIANO MARTIEZ-OROSCO (PES, Spain) asked for explanations on an amendment by her group which had been voted favourably by a vast majority of the Women's Rights committee. This amendment, which had disappeared from the text subject to the vote, required the recognition of the right of asylum of the women victims of serious persecutions and violations of their human rights.
On behalf of her group, the MEP asked for the vote to be postponed until as such time as this problem had been solved.
The rapporteur, Mrs. Miet SMET (EPP-ED, B), read an oral correction made to this text but the MEPs agreed nevertheless to postpone the vote until a later date.
