Intra and extra-Community trading of goods: trans-European network for the collection of statistics, Edicom II

PURPOSE: to establish a set of actions relating to the trans-European network for the collection, production and dissemination of statistics on the trading of goods within the Community and between the Community and non-member countries (Edicom - new phase). COMMUNITY MEASURE: Decision 507/2001/EC of the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers. CONTENT: For the implementation of the new phase of the Edicom programme, two main objectives will be targeted: 1) the development of the most modern, rational and efficient network possible, accompanied by the necessary measures to improving and harmonising methods, with a view to producing more reliable, less costly and more rapidly available statistics that fulfil the needs of existing and future user needs; 2) the development and promotion of tools for collecting information on the trading of goods, by taking into account the latest technological advances in order to improve the functions available to information providers. The financial framework for implementation of the action for the period 2001-2005 is fixed at EUR 51.2 million. ENTRY INTO FORCE: 16 March 2001.�
