2000/0002(AVC)
PURPOSE: to permit the accession of the Community to Regulation 108 of the EEC/UN concerning the approval for the production of retreaded pneumatic tyres for motor vehicles and their trailers. COMMUNITY MEASURE: Council Decision 2001/509/EC on the accession of the EU to Regulation 108 of the UN concerning the approval for production of retreaded pneumatic tyres for motor vehicles and their trailers. CONTENT: This Council Decision refers to the accession of the Community to Regulation 108 of the EEC/UN concerning the approval for the production of retreaded pneumatic tyres for motor vehicles and their trailers. In particular, this decision seeks to abolish the technical barriers to trade in motor tyres with regard to retreaded pneumatic tyres while ensuring a high level of safety and environmental protection. In order to enable the economic operators to take appropriate measures to comply in time with the provisions of Regulation 108 so as not to disrupt the market in retreaded pneumatic tyres, in particular by dates of entry into force that could differ from one Member State to the other, the uniform application of this Regulation throughout the Community will be regulated later through a Community Directive. However, Regulation 108 will not be integrated into the system for tyre-approval of motor vehicles and their trailors. ENTRY INTO FORCE: 26.06.2001.
