Human consumption: fruit jams, jellies, marmalades and chestnut purée

PURPOSE : to establish rules on the production and marketing of jams and similar products. COMMUNITY MEASURE : Council Directive 2001/113/EC relating to fruit jams, jellies and marmalades and sweetened chestnut puree intended for human consumption. CONTENT : This Directive lays down definitions and common rules governing composition, manufacturing specifications and labelling of the products concerned so as to ensure their free movement within the Community. The general food labelling rules laid down in Directive 2001/13/EC apply, subject to certain conditions which are specific to the products within the scope of the Directive. In order to take into account existing national traditions in the making of fruit jams and similar products, the existing national regulations authorising the marketing of such products with a reduced sugar content is maintained. Directive 79/693/EEC is repealed with effect from 12 July 2003. DATE OF TRANSPOSITION : 12/07/03 ENTRY INTO FORCE : 12/01/02�
