2000/0316(CNS)
PURPOSE : to introduce specific measures for certain agricultural products for the Canary Islands and to repeal Regulation 1601/92/EEC (Poseican).
COMMUNITY MEASURE : Council Regulation 1454/2001/EC repealing Regulation 1601/92/EEC.
CONTENT : this Regulation lays down specific measures to remedy the difficulties caused by the remote and insular nature and the outermost location of the Canary Islands in respect of certain agricultural products.
The Council agreed on certain agricultural aspects to implement the measures of Article 299 paragraph 2 of the EC Treaty relating to outermost regions. These specific measures concern certain agricultural products in favour of the French overseas departments (see CNS/2000/0313), the Azores and Madeira (see CNS/2000/0314) and the Canary Islands as well as amending the organisation of the market in beef and veal (see CNS/2000/0317).
The measures aim to consolidate and to adapt the acquis, and to improve the current agricultural framework in favour of these regions, by remaining in the framework of the credits provided by the financial perspective. They provide to simplify the management of the regimes, by improving the transparency and the cost-effectiveness and, at the same reinforce the follow-up and control of the provisions.
