EC/South Africa Cooperation Agreement

1994/0216(CNS)
In adopting the report by Mrs Glenys KINNOCK (PSE, UK), the committee proposed that the EP should approve the conclusion of the interim agreement between the Union and South Africa signed on 10 October. It was important to note that this interim agreement was compatible with the objectives of the reconstruction and development programme (RDP) drawn up by the South African Government to meet basic needs, improve human resources and abilities, establish democracy in the country and within its economy and provide for institutional reform. It was also important to point out that South Africa had been admitted into the generalised system of preferences from 1995 for industrial products and 1996 for agricultural products.
