European research area: research and training activities, framework programme EURATOM 2002-2006

The Commission did not accept an increased amount for thermonuclear fusion, and the original amount of EUR 700 million is reinstated. There is no mention in the modified proposal, of a programming report on activities to be financed under Heading 3 of the financial perspective, nor of advising the budgetary authority of an intent to depart from the breakdown of expenditure. Progress on implementation of the framework programme, including its financial aspects, will be presented in a report to be published by the Commission each year. The modified proposal states that equality of opportunity, irrespective of gender, will be respected. It accepts the wording of the Parliament on the main objectives of the Joint Research Centre.�
