Denominations and technical specifications of euro coins intended for circulation

The Committee has approved the Commission proposal amending the technical specifications of the euro coins. The three proposed changes - increasing the weight of the 50 cent coin and modifying the edges of the 50 cent and 10 cent coins - is a direct response to concerns raised by the European Vending Machine Association and the European Blind Union respectively. On the advice of its rapporteur Ms. Irene SOLTWEDEL-SCHÄFER (Greens, D) the Committee decided to reinstate one amendment from Parliament's second reading of the original euro coin proposal, calling for a symbolic 100 euro gold coin to be minted alongside the eight regular coins.�
