Sustainable urban development: environmental legislation at the local level, Community framework for cooperation

The committee adopted the report by Marie-Noëlle LIENEMANN (PES, F) amending the proposal under the codecision procedure (1st reading). It called for funding for the programme to be EUR 20 m instead of the EUR 12.4 m proposed by the Commission. Other amendments included a call for publication in the EC Official Journal of "priority themes" for the funding of projects. The committee also wanted the selection criteria to stipulate that projects must contribute not only to a multisectoral approach but also to sustainable urban development, taking social, economic and environmental dimensions into account. �
