MEDA programme, Mediterranean countries. 1998 report

The committee adopted a report by Yves PIETRASANTA (Greens/EFA, F) putting forward a draft resolution on the 1998 annual report on the implementation of the MEDA programme. The committee called for the programme to have a more strategic and integrated approach and stressed the need for reforms and simplification of the procedures provided for in the new MEDA II regulation. Furthermore, it called on the Commission to speed up the process of negotiating the association agreements (i.e. the bilateral dimension of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership). In order to improve the flow of information, the Commission was urged to draw up and make available to Parliament and the public an annual report on the use of the funds and the political strategies adopted.�
