Additional costs incurred in the marketing of certain fishery products from very remote regions
1994/0255(CNS)
The committee approved a proposal providing compensation for the additional
costs incurred in the marketing of certain fishery products form the Azores,
Madeira, the Canary Islands and the French department of Guiana as a result
of their very remote location.
In his report, the rapporteur, MR Carlos COSTA NEVES said that the
remoteness of these regions posed an obstacle to their economic and social
development on equal terms with other regions in the Eu. The financial cost
of the aid proposed was very low but would help retain local fishing
communities and prevent emigration.
