Conservation of fishery resources: protection of juveniles of marine organisms

The committee adopted the report (consultation procedure) by Daniel VARELA SUANZES-CARPEGNA (EPP/ED, E) approving the Commission proposal with just one amendment calling for the minimum permitted landing size for deepwater rose shrimp to be reduced to 22 mm. The committee felt that the Commission proposal of 24mm was excessive and could cause problems for fishermen, and that the compromise of 22 mm already agreed with the Member States was more appropriate. �
