Protection of deepwater coral reefs from the effects of trawling in an area north west of Scotland

The committee adopted the report by Elspeth ATTWOOLL (ELDR, UK) broadly approving the proposal, subject to a few amendments (consultation procedure). In particular, the committee wanted it to be made clear that the Commission measures should only cover fishing gear that damages the coral reefs. It also stipulated that the regional advisory councils shall be consulted on the management of fisheries on the Darwin Mounds. �
