Partly or wholly dehydrated preserved milk for human consumption
1996/0116(CNS)
OBJECTIVE: pursuant to the undertakings given by the Community, simplification of certain
vertical Directives relating to food to take account only of the essential requirements to be met by
the products they cover in order that those products may move freely within the internal market.
SUBSTANCE: the proposal for a Council Directive relating to certain preserved milk adapts
Directive 76/118/EEC to, in particular, Directives 79/112/EEC on the labelling of foodstuffs,
89/107/EEC on additives, and 92/46/EEC laying down the health rules for production and placing
on the market of raw milk, heat-treated milk and milk-based products.
The list of special designations in Annex II to the proposal has been reviewed to take account of the
designations actually used on the market in the Member States.
Finally, the proposal retains the option offered by Directive 76/118/EEC of allowing the Member
States to authorize vitaminization of the products covered.
