Information Society in Europe: multiannual community programme 1998-2002 PROMISE

OBJECTIVE: the proposal for a Council Decision seeks to establish a multiannual Community programme to stimulate the establishment of the information society in Europe (INFORMATION SOCIETY ). SUBSTANCE : the programme covers the period 1 January 1997 - 31 December 2001 and provides for measures designed to: - increase public awareness and understanding of the potential impact of the information society and its new applications; - help to establish the information society in Europe, by promoting widespread access to and familiarity in the use of new information services and applications; - give consideration to and make use of the worldwide dimension of the information society. �
