Development of trans-European networks in the energy sector

Adopting the report by Mr Gordon Adam, the European Parliament approved the Commission proposal. In its amendments, the European Parliament: - stressed that developing networks in the energy sector should help to reduce the cost of energy supplies and stimulate growth, competitiveness and employment; - called for priority to be given to trans-European energy networks which promote economic and social cohesion, taking account of economic, social and technical factors; - called for the Commission to be assisted by an advisory committee composed of representatives from the Member States and chaired by the Commission representative and for the Commission to take greater account of the opinion of the committee and any observations made by the European Parliament.�
