Setting up an employment and labour market policy Commitee
1996/0097(CNS)
Parliament adopted the report by Mr Ioannis THEONAS (GUE/NGL, G) on the setting up of an
Employment and Labour Market Policy Committee. Whilst approving the Commission proposal,
the EP put forward amendments aimed essentially at strengthening coordination between the
Member States' employment policies, and spelling out the need for regularly consulting the two sides
of industry at Community level as well as cooperating more closely with Parliament. The EP also
hoped that employment trends in the Community would be monitored using a range of common
indicators, and called for the report and recommendations drawn up by the committee to be
forwarded to it.
