Specific measures for live plants and floricultural products

1996/0155(CNS)
Parliament adopted the report by Mr Livio FILIPI (PPE, I) on the proposal for a Regulation introducing specific measures for live plants and floricultural products. Parliament took the view that the increase in the number of free trade areas and generalized systems of preferences favours imports of horticultural products and in particular cut flowers from third countries and that, therefore, the loss of earnings for the European Union caused by the reduction on import duties is about ECU 50 m. Accordingly, it considered that the EU contribution to the financing of measures under the Regulation should be increased to ECU 60 m (instead of the 10 m provided for by the Commission).
