Denominations and technical specifications of euro coins intended for circulation

In adopting the report by Mrs Irene SOLTWEDEL-SCHÄFER (Greens, D) Parliament approved the Commission proposal amending the technical specifications of euro coins. The three amendments proposed (increase in the weight of the 50 cent coin, modifying the definition of the edge of the 50 and 10 cent coins) deal with the objections raised by the European Vending Association and the European Blind Union. Parliament, in retabling an amendment which it had already tabled at the second reading of the initial proposal on euro coins, called for the striking of a new symbolic coin in gold with a nominal value of 100 euro, in addition to the eight normal coins. �
