Foodstuffs, labelling: coffee and chicory extracts (simplify Directive 77/436/EEC)

PURPOSE : The Directive is one of several vertical directives relating to foods that is being simplified. It replaces Council Direcive 77/436/EEC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to coffee extracts and chicory extracts. COMMUNITY MEASURE : Directive 1999/4/EC of the European Parliament and the Council relating to coffee extracts and chicory extracts. CONTENT : The Directive confines itself to those aspects that are necessary for the operation of the single market, by making reference to existing measures that are applicable to all foodstuffs. It should be noted that the Directive limits the delegation of power to the Commission by stipulating that the decision to bring this Directive into line with general Community provisions applicable to foodstuffs shall be undertaken by a Committee III/A.
