EC/Egypt agreement: Euro-Mediterranean association agreement
PURPOSE : to conclude a Euro-Mediterranean Association Agreement between the European Communities and their Member States and the Arab Republic of Egypt.
LEGISLATIVE ACT : Council Decision 2004/635/EC concerning the conclusion of a Euro-Mediterranean Agreement establishing an Association between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and the Arab Republic of Egypt, of the other part.
CONTENT : This Decision approves the Euro-Mediterranean Agreement establishing an Association between the European Communities and their Member States and Egypt ("the Association Agreement"), together with the Annexes and Protocols annexed to the Association Agreement, and the joint declarations, declarations by the European Community and Exchange of Letters attached to the Final Act.
The position to be taken by the Community within the Association Council, and within the Association Committee will be determined by the Council on the basis of a proposal by the Commission, in accordance with the corresponding provisions of the Treaties.
The provisions of the Agreement that fall within the scope of Part III, Title IV of the Treaty bind the United Kingdom and Ireland as separate Contracting Parties, and not as part of the European Community, until the United Kingdom or Ireland notifies Egypt that it has become bound as part of the European Community. The same applies to Denmark.
