Common fisheries policy: management of fishing licences and the minimal information to be contained therein (repeal. Regulation (EC) No 3090/93)

2005/0205(CNS)

PURPOSE:  To lay down new Community based rules for the minimum information to be contained in fishing licenses and to repeal Regulation 3690/93.

PROPOSED ACT: Council Regulation.

CONTENT: The Community system laying down rules for the minimum information needed in fishing licenses is encapsulated in Regulation 3690/93. In 2002 a new Regulation on the conservation and sustainable exploitation of fisheries resources was agreed, the content of which made the 1993 fishing licenses Regulation obsolete.  The purpose of this proposal, therefore, is to repeal Regulation 3690/93 and to translate references to it to Regulation 1281/2005 in accordance with the correlation table set out in Annex to the proposed Regulation. This proposal has already had a favourable opinion from the Committee for Fisheries and Aquaculture in July 2005.
