Resolution on nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament

The Council adopted conclusions which reaffirm its support for the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which represents the cornerstone of the global nuclear non-proliferation regime, the essential foundation for the pursuit of nuclear disarmament under Article VI of the Treaty and also the key element in the further development of the applications of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes in accordance with Article IV of the Treaty.

The Council calls on all state parties to the NPT to join the EU in making every effort to ensure a smooth start to the review process.
