EC/Algeria agreement: protocol to the Euro-Mediterranean association Agreement following the 2004 enlargement

PURPOSE: to conclude Protocol to the Euro-Mediterranean Agreement between the Community and Algeria to take account of EU enlargement.

PROPOSED ACT: Council Decision 2007/544/EC on the conclusion of the Protocol to the Euro-Mediterranean Agreement establishing an Association between the European Community and its Member States, of the one part, and Algeria, of the other part, to take account of the accession of the Czech Republic, Estonia, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia to the European Union.

CONTENT: provisions set out in Article 6(2) of the Act of Accession, state that the ten new Member States, who acceded to the EU in May 2004, should also accede to the Euro-Mediterranean Association Agreement by use of a Protocol.

The Protocol has been designed, primarily, to take account of EU enlargement to the EU-Algeria Association Agreement. The new Protocol also includes the new official languages of the EU.
