Court of Auditors: appointment of Michel Cretin

PURPOSE: to appoint a Member of the Court of Auditors.

PROPOSED ACT: Council Decision.

CONTENT: under Article 247, paragraph 3, of the EC Treaty and Article 160b of the EAEC, Members of the Court of Auditors are appointed by the Council, acting by a qualified majority after having consulted the European Parliament.

Given that the term of office of Mr Jean-François BERNICOT to the Court expires on 31 December 2007, the French authorities have proposed that Mr Michel CRETIN be his replacement.

As a consequence, this proposal aims to inform the European Parliament about the appointment of Mr Michel CRETIN.
