EEC/San Marino agreement: cooperation and customs union, protocol after the accession of the Republic of Bulgaria and Romania

PURPOSE: to conclude a Protocol to the Agreement on Cooperation and Customs Union between the European Economic Community and the Republic of San Marino, following the accession of the Republic of Bulgaria and Romania to the European Union in 2007.

LEGISLATIVE ACT: Council Decision 2007/810/EC on the conclusion, on behalf of the European Community and its Member States, of a Protocol to the Agreement on Cooperation and Customs Union between the European Economic Community and the Republic of San Marino, regarding the participation, as contracting parties, of the Republic of Bulgaria and Romania, following their accession to the European Union.

CONTENT: the Agreement on Cooperation and Customs Union between the European Economic Community and the Republic of San Marino came into force on 1 April 2002 (refer to procedure file CNS/1991/1261). The aim of the current Decision is to modify the agreement so as to include the Republic of Bulgaria and Romania as contracting parties in the basic agreement.

The text of the Protocol EC-San Marino is attached to the Decision.

ENTRY INTO FORCE: the Protocol comes into force when all the necessary procedures have been completed.
