Conservation of wild birds; Commission implementing powers

PURPOSE: to adapt Council Directive 79/409/EEC on the conservation of wild birds to the regulatory procedure with scrutiny (comitology).

LEGISLATIVE ACT: Directive 2008/102/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Council Directive 79/409/EEC on the conservation of wild birds, as regards the implementing powers conferred on the Commission.

CONTENT: having reached agreement with the Parliament at first reading, the Council adopted a Directive adapting Directive 79/409/EEC on the conservation of wild birds to the regulatory procedure with scrutiny (comitology), which was introduced by Decision 2006/512/EC.

Decision 2006/512/EC amended Decision 1999/468/EC laying down the procedures for the exercise of implementing powers conferred on the Commission. It introduced the new procedure for measures of general scope designed to amend non-essential elements of a basic instrument adopted in accordance with the co-decision procedure.
