EC/Guinea fisheries agreement: protocol for the period from 1st January 2003 to 31st December 2003

PURPOSE : to conclude a agreement under the form of an exchange of letters to extend the 2000-2001 fishing protocol with Guinea
LEGISLATIVE ACT : Council Regulation 1765/2003/EC on the conclusion of the Agreement in the form of an Exchange of Letters concerning the extension of the Protocol setting out the fishing opportunities and financial contribution provided for in the Agreement between the European Economic Community and the Government of the Republic of Guinea on fishing off the Guinean coast for the period 1 January 2003 to 31 December 2003.
CONTENT : the Council unanimously adopted the Regulation on the conclusion of the Agreement setting out the fishing opportunities and the financial contribution provided for between the European Economic Community and the Government of the Republic of Guinea on fishing off the Guinean coast for the period 1 January 2003 to 31 December 2003. This agreement, which is based on Article 300 of the Treaty, provides for fishing opportunities for trawlers and tuna boats allocated between Spain, Italy, Greece, Portugal and France.
The fishing opportunities for trawlers and tuna boats fixed in the Protocol shall be allocated pro rata temporis among the Member States as follows:
a) fin-fish/cephalopods: 844 GRT for the Spanish vessels; 750 GRT for the Italian vessels and 906 GRT for the Greek vessels;
b) shrimps: 1 050 GRT for the Spanish vessels; 300 GRT for the Portuguese vessels; 150 GRT for the Greek vessels;
c) tuna seiners: 19 French vessels and 19 Spanish vessels;
d) pole-and-line tuna vessels: 7 French vessels and 7 Spanis vessels;
e) surface longliners: 14 Spanish vessels and 2 Portuguese vessels.
If licence applications from these Member States do not cover all the fishing opportunities fixed by the Protocol, the Commission may take into consideration licence applications from any other Member State.
ENTRY INTO FORCE : the Regulation shall enter into force 12/10/2003.�
