Request for the waiver of parliamentary immunity of Miloslav Ransdorf
The European Parliament has decided to waive the immunity of Mr Miloslav RANSDORF (GUE/NGL, CZ).
Mr Ransdorf is to stand trial on charges in his country following a car incident in which a woman suffered head injuries.
In the course of the previous parliamentary term, the European Parliament had already decided, on 3 February 2009, to waive Mr Miloslav Ransdorf's immunity for the purposes of the same criminal prosecution (see 2008/2176(IMM). Given that Mr Ransdorf was re-elected and that according to Czech law, if a member of parliament is re-elected, a new request for the waiver of the member's immunity must be submitted to the new parliament, the committee considered that Mr Miloslav Ransdorf's immunity should be waived for the same reasons as in 2009.
