EC/Russia agreement on cooperation in science and technology: renewal

PURPOSE: to renew the Agreement on cooperation in science and technology between the European Community and Russia.

NON-LEGISLATIVE ACT: Council Decision 2014/50/EU concerning the renewal of the Agreement on cooperation in science and technology between the European Community and the Government of the Russian Federation.

BACKGROUND: the Agreement on science and technology cooperation between the European Community and the Government of the Russian Federation was signed in Brussels on 16 November 2000. This Agreement stipulated that it was to be concluded for an initial period ending on 31 December 2002 and would be renewable by common agreement between the parties for additional periods of five years.

By its Decision 2009/313/EC of 30 March 2009, the Council concluded the renewal of the Agreement for a further period of five years.

Following a joint review of the Agreement, both Parties considered that the Agreement should be renewed for another five years in its current form.

CONTENT : with this Decision, the Council approves, with Parliament’s approval, the renewal of the Agreement on cooperation in science and technology between the European Community and Russia, for an additional period of five years,

The content of the renewed Agreement is identical to the content of the Agreement, which expired on 20 February 2014.
