EC/Chile Association Agreement: accession of Croatia to the EU. Protocol

The European Parliament adopted by 556 votes to 73, with 4 abstentions, a legislative resolution on the draft Council decision on the conclusion, on behalf of the European Union and its Member States, of the Third Additional Protocol to the Agreement establishing an association between the European Community and its Member States, of the one part, and Chile, of the other part, to take account of the accession of Croatia to the European Union.

Following the recommendation of its Committee on International Trade, Parliament approved the conclusion of the Protocol.

The Council authorised the Commission to open negotiations with the third countries in view of the accession of Croatia to the EU on 14 September 2012. The negotiations with Chile were concluded with the initialling of the Protocol on 9 July 2015 in Brussels, and it was signed on behalf of the Union and its Member States on 29 June 2017.
