Single Resolution Board: renewal of the term of office of the Chair

The Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs adopted the report by Roberto GUALTIERI (EPP, IT) on the Commission's proposal to renew the term of office of Elke König as Chair of the Single Resolution Board (SRB).

The Commission’s proposal to renew Elke König's term as Chair of the Board was presented on 29 November 2017 in accordance with Regulation (EU) No 806/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing uniform rules and a uniform procedure for the resolution of credit institutions and certain investment firms in the framework of a Single Resolution Mechanism and a Single Resolution Fund and amending Regulation (EU) No 1093/2010.

The committee recommended that Parliament approve the Commission's proposal to renew the mandate of Elke König as Chair of the Board.

As a reminder, the Council appointed Elke König Chair of the Single Resolution Board (SRB) for a three-year term from 23 December 2014. Regulation (EU) No 806/2014 stipulated that the term of office of the first Chair of the SRB may be renewed once for a period of five years.

Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs evaluated the credentials of the proposed candidate. A hearing was held with Elke König on 4 December 2017.
