Court of Auditors: appointment of a Slovakian member
The Committee on Budgetary Control adopted the report by Joachim Kuhs (ID, DE) on the nomination of Martin Klus as a Member of the Court of Auditors.
The committee recommended that the European Parliament deliver an unfavourable opinion on the Councils nomination of Martin Klus as a Member of the Court of Auditors and asked the Council to withdraw its nomination and submit a new one to Parliament.
Martin Kus has been a member of the Slovak Parliament (Foreign Affairs Committee) since September 2022. He also served as State Secretary (Vice Minister) of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (3/2020 - 9/2022).
The Committee on Budgetary Control evaluated Martin Kluss qualifications, in particular with regard to the conditions set out in Article 286(1) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. As part of this evaluation, the committee received a curriculum vitae from Martin Klus, as well as the replies to the written questionnaire that he had been sent.
The committee then held a hearing with Martin Klus on 22 March 2023, during which he made an opening statement and then answered questions put by committee members.
